Polygala root: bitter and pungent in flavor and warm in nature. Enter heart, lung and kidney meridians. Has the effects of relieving mental uneasiness, eliminating phlegm, dredging orifice, and eliminating carbuncle and swelling. Fructus forsythiae: bitter, slightly pungent and cold in nature. Enter heart and spleen meridians. Has the effects of clearing away heat and toxic materials, dispersing pathogenic accumulation, expelling pathogenic factors from the exterior, and clearing away heat. (see, page 164, supra.)

White mulberry root-bark: sweet in flavor and cold in nature. Enter the lung meridian. Has the effects of relieving cough and asthma, inducing diuresis and relieving swelling. (see page 444, supra.)

Oyster shell: salty and astringent in taste, slightly cold in nature. Enter liver, gallbladder and kidney meridians. Has effects in nourishing yin, suppressing hyperactive yang, astringing, inducing astringency, softening hard mass, and eliminating stagnation.
