1. A socket, comprising:

an electronic processor configured to:

receiving information from an external load;

determining an operational profile of the external load from the information;

analyzing a current operation of the external load; and is

2. The receptacle of claim 1 further comprising a transceiver.

3. The receptacle of claim 2, wherein the electronic processor is further configured to:

4. The receptacle of claim 2, wherein the electronic processor is further configured to communicate with and close a circuit breaker via the transceiver in response to the current operation of the external load being different from the operating profile.

5. The receptacle of claim 4, wherein the electronic processor is further configured to determine whether to interrupt a power supply to the external load at the circuit interrupting receptacle or at the circuit breaker.

6. The receptacle of claim 2, wherein the electronic processor is further configured to override a reset command.

7. The receptacle of claim 2, wherein the electronic processor is further configured to communicate with the smoke detector via the transceiver and close a circuit breaker in response to a signal from the smoke detector.

8. The receptacle of claim 1, wherein the operational profile is based on an operational history of the external device.

9. A method of operating a socket, comprising:

receiving, at an electronic processor, information from an external load;

determining an operational profile of the external load from the information;

analyzing, with the electronic processor, a current operation of the external load; and

disconnecting power to the external load when a current operation of the external load is different from the operating profile.

10. The method of claim 9 further comprising:

creating or updating the operational profile of the external load, creating an updated operational profile; and

transmitting the updated operating profile to a remote server.

11. The method of claim 9 further comprising closing a circuit breaker in response to the current operation of the external load being different from the operating profile.

12. The method of claim 9 further comprising determining whether to interrupt power to the external load at the circuit interrupting outlet or at the circuit breaker.

13. The method of claim 9 further comprising overriding the reset command.

14. The method of claim 9 further comprising closing a circuit breaker in response to a signal from the smoke detector.

15. The method of claim 9, wherein the operational profile is based on an operational history of the external device.

Technical Field

Disclosure of Invention

An electrical receptacle, such as an Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) receptacle or a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) receptacle, is configured to provide electrical power to an external load via an outlet. AFCI and GFCI receptacles may be configured to trip when an abnormal condition is detected (e.g., an abnormal condition of an external load receiving power from the receptacle). However, the various external loads receiving power from the AFCI and GFCI receptacles may have different operating profiles that may be detected as abnormal conditions, resulting in false tripping of the AFCI and GFCI receptacles.

Accordingly, one embodiment provides a receptacle comprising an electronic processor configured to receive information from an external load and determine an operating profile of the external load from the information. The electronic processor analyzes the current operation of the external load and interrupts power to the external load when the current operation of the external load differs from the operating profile.

Another embodiment provides a method of operating a receptacle. The method includes receiving information from an external load at an electronic processor and determining an operating profile of the external load from the information. The method further includes analyzing, with the electronic processor, a current operation of the external load and interrupting power to the external load when the current operation of the external load is different from the operating profile.
