An assistance method for a light control system of a motor vehicle, the light control system comprising: a light control device for actuating a lighting unit of the motor vehicle for illuminating the surroundings of the motor vehicle; a portable unit; at least one communication interface; and an evaluation unit for evaluating signals of the portable unit received by means of the communication interface, wherein the lighting unit can be controlled by means of the light control device under a first auxiliary function and depending on the evaluation of the signals received by the portable unit, such that at least one light ray of the lighting unit can be positioned depending on the position of the portable unit, the auxiliary method having the following method steps:

-switching on the first auxiliary function manually or automatically;

-operating a lighting unit by means of a light control device such that the light of the lighting unit automatically tracks the portable unit according to its movement trajectory when the first auxiliary function is switched on.
