Technical Field

The invention relates to a method for connecting an additional component to a body part of a motor vehicle and to a fastening device used in this case.

Background

It is well known to attach additional components to the vehicle body. Examples of such additional components in the outer region are vehicle lamps, headlamps, exterior mirrors, trim strips and bumpers, and examples in the inner region are radios, touch screens, vents, etc. The component is prefabricated and inserted into a recess of an outer or inner part of the vehicle body in a manner that is as precisely fitting as possible in order to avoid incorrect positioning of the additional component. Additional components such as vehicle lamps are intended here to be placed as flush as possible and to have a defined gap size with the immediately adjacent body component after installation. For example, the same applies to the bumper. This requires a very precise mounting of the individual components, wherein manufacturing tolerances should be taken into account and readjustments may be necessary.

Generally, an additional component such as a vehicle lamp is attached to the body of the vehicle through a locking device. The locking device can be designed in a number of ways and meets specific requirements. For example, patent document DE 202005006376U 1 discloses a vehicle lamp for mounting into a vehicle body opening, wherein the locking device is intended to be easily releasable to remove the vehicle lamp. For this purpose, the locking device is equipped with a blocking element which can be brought into a position in which the locking device is released. The vehicle lamp can thus be removed without additional tools and without damaging surrounding components.

Patent document US 7,699,555B 2 also discloses a fastening device for releasably fastening a vehicle lamp to a body part of a vehicle, wherein the releasable fastening takes place by means of a locking mechanism. Since such locking mechanisms may be difficult to access, a release bolt is provided with which the locking mechanism may be released. The release bolt has a shank portion arranged in such a way that: the release bolt can be driven by the screw portion even if the locking engagement is located in an area that is difficult to access.

In order to connect the vehicle lamp and the bumper together to the vehicle body, auxiliary tools are also known with which the vehicle lamp and the bumper can be mounted in a specific connection pattern relative to each other. For example, DE 102004063458 a1 discloses a fastening device in which two components can be adjusted relative to one another. The fastening device is fastened to a support frame of a vehicle and has a clamping device for fixing a vehicle lamp. Furthermore, the fastening device has a bumper bracket and a fixing element which, in the mounted state, fastens the bumper bracket to the fastening device.

DE 102013003100 a1 describes a method for connecting a rear bumper cladding to a motor vehicle, in which method first the side rear lamps are each preassembled on a guide contour. Furthermore, the side guide member, which is then connected to the guide profile of the rear lamp, is fastened to the body shell of the vehicle. The rear lamps are then screwed to the body shell and the bumper cladding is guided to the rear of the vehicle, raised laterally and clamped to the guide profiles of the rear lamps. Furthermore, fastening straps are used which are inserted onto the bolts on the body shell and are positioned in the vertical direction by means of positioning elements.

In contrast, patent document KR 20120046546 a discloses a fastening device for a vehicle rear lamp, which is pivotably connected to a housing of the vehicle lamp. In order to prevent light from appearing between the housing and the glass of the rear lamp, an elastic device for preventing a gap between the housing and the glass of the rear lamp is provided.

Patent document WO 2014/048974 a1 discloses a bracket for a vehicle lamp with means for connecting the bracket to the vehicle body, the vehicle lamp and a front bumper, wherein the bracket holds the vehicle lamp and the bumper in a fixed position with respect to the vehicle body. The bracket also has a frangible region which breaks in the event of a crash in order to reduce or even completely prevent damage to the vehicle body.

Various solutions for attaching vehicle lamps and bumpers to the vehicle body have therefore been known, but in view of the existing prior art, the field still provides room for further improvement.

Disclosure of Invention

The invention is based on the object of providing a possibility that an additional component, in particular a vehicle rear headlight, as well as a rear bumper, can be mounted on a body part of a motor vehicle in a well-fitting, flush and with a predetermined gap size.

According to the invention, this object is achieved by a mounting method having the features of claim 1 and a fastening device used in this case according to claim 4. Further particularly advantageous developments of the invention are disclosed by the respective dependent claims.

It should be noted that the features and measures cited separately in the following description can be combined with each other in any technically advantageous manner and represent further improvements of the invention. The description particularly refers to the accompanying drawings and detailed description of the invention.

The method according to the invention is used for connecting an additional component, in particular a rear lamp, to a body component of a motor vehicle. For example, the body part is a part on the vehicle body outer side in the rear region of the vehicle, wherein the body part is usually a sheet metal part. However, the body part may alternatively be a part made of other materials, such as plastic, with or without fibre reinforcement. The vehicle headlamp is connected to the vehicle body-side member immediately above the bumper and next to the tailgate of the vehicle.

The method according to the invention comprises at least the following steps:

-attaching a fastening device to the add-on part, wherein the fastening device has a basic body and a clamping element resiliently connected to the basic body, and the add-on part is connected to the clamping element,

-positioning the additional component to the body part with the fastening device, wherein the fastening device and the additional component are connected to the body part in such a way that the additional component is pushed away from the basic body of the fastening device or pulled towards the basic body of the fastening device by the spring action of the clamping element,

-moving the add-on part in the direction of the body part, wherein the add-on part moves relative to the clamping element and fixes the add-on part to the body part,

-moving the basic body of the fastening device in the direction of the additional component, as a result of which the clamping element is folded relative to the basic body of the fastening device and locked thereto, and

-fixing the basic body of the fastening device to the bodywork component.

The method according to the invention thus uses a fastening device which offers various advantages during the mounting of an additional component, in particular a rear lamp, to a vehicle body component. For example, at the beginning of the installation, the additional component can easily be positioned together with the fastening device on the body part and held there until the next installation step. The clamping element of the fastening device pushes the additional component against a reference point on the body component by means of a spring force. The clamping element pushes the additional component away from the fastening element or pulls it towards the fastening element, depending on how the reference frame is configured and where the reference point is. The additional component can thus be adjusted relative to the reference point without manual adjustment.

If in the next step the additional component is moved further in the direction of the body component, it can be fixed to the body component. If the basic body of the fastening device is now manually pushed in the direction of the fixed additional component, the clamping element is folded relative to the basic body of the fastening device and locked to the basic body by the locking connection. If the basic body of the fastening device is then also fixed to the vehicle body part, for example by screwing, the additional component and the fastening device are thus fixed to the vehicle body part in defined positions. The position is preferably selected in such a way that: a gap remains between the fastening device and the attachment part, into which gap the cladding of the bumper can be pushed during subsequent mounting of the bumper under the attachment part. The fastening device and the additional component thus provide an accurate reference point for the mounting of the bumper after mounting. This reference point is produced by a corresponding design of the fastening device and is independent of the manual activity of the fitter.

In one embodiment of the invention, the fastening device for the additional component is positioned on the body component at the beginning of the installation method by hooking the fastening device with at least the fixing element with clearance into the insertion hole on the body component. For example, the fixing element is a hook with which the fastening device is hooked into the receptacle. However, any form of securing element is suitable. The dimensions of the fixing element and the receptacle are here chosen in such a way that: the fixing element can be moved within the receptacle at least parallel to the locked relative movement, for example at least in the vertical direction. In particular, the fixing element is located on the basic body of the fastening device.

Since the additional part is connected to the clamping element of the fastening device, which is elastically connected to the basic body of the fastening device, the additional part is subjected to a positive or negative spring force, as a result of which the additional part is pushed or pulled into the reference frame, which is also possible in the horizontal direction. The basic body is supported on the body part by means of fastening elements and the additional part is positioned on the body part by means of a suitable positioning system.

The connection between the attachment part and the fastening device is designed here in such a way that the attachment part is not yet fully connected to the clamping element at first. This can take place, for example, by pushing the at least one guide element into a sliding track on the clamping element zone by zone. The guide element is first pushed into the slide rail to such an extent that, for example, the additional component can be pushed upwards by the clamping element. The invention has been described substantially with reference to an embodiment in which the additional component is pushed upwards by the spring action of the clamping element. However, the invention also includes embodiments in which the additional component is pushed or pulled in any other direction by the spring action of the clamping element. The only essential feature is that the spring action of the clamping element pushes or pulls the additional part against a chosen reference point.

After the combination formed by the fastening device and the additional component has been positioned on the body part, the additional component is moved further in the direction of the body part, wherein the guide element is further guided in the slide rail of the clamping element. After the additional component is subsequently fixed to the vehicle body part, the basic body of the fastening device is pushed upwards by the fitter in the direction of the additional component. The fixing element is moved upwards in the insertion opening of the body part during the process, but can also be moved laterally (i.e. to the right or to the left), while the absolute position of the clamping element in space remains substantially unchanged by the additional part being fixed to the body part. The basic body of the fastening device is thus pushed upwards against the spring action between the basic body and the clamping element, as a result of which the clamping element is folded relative to the basic body until it is locked to the basic body by means of a locking connection. The clamping element and the basic body form a substantially rigid unit from then on. If the basic body of the fastening device is likewise fastened to the vehicle body part, a defined gap, into which in particular the cladding of the bumper can be pushed, arises between the additional component and the fastening device.

The fastening device used in the method according to the invention therefore has a basic body and a clamping element which is connected elastically to the basic body, wherein the clamping element is designed for connection to an additional component and has a locking element for locking the clamping element to the basic body. Furthermore, the basic body has a fixing element, in particular a hook, for connecting to a vehicle body part. The basic element of the fastening device is a clamping element which is resiliently connected to the basic body and which protrudes from the basic body, for example. At least one sliding track is formed on the clamping element, into which a correspondingly designed guide element on the additional component can be pushed.

In one embodiment of the invention, the clamping element is formed by a base plate and two wings projecting laterally from the base plate, wherein the base plate is resiliently connected to the basic body. This occurs through a flexible connection between the substrate and the basic body. The projecting wings are preferably designed in such a way that: which are located at a distance from each other on one side of the base plate and point away from the basic body of the fastening device. Furthermore, the projecting wings extend from the basic body up to the free ends of the clamping elements. A slide rail for pushing the guide element of the additional component is arranged on each of the wings. The slide rail extends from the basic body in the direction of extension of the wing towards the free end of the clamping element. For example, a sliding rail can be provided on the inside and/or outside of the wing, and the guide element of the additional component can thus be pushed into this sliding rail from the inside or from the outside.

Locking elements which lock together when the clamping elements are folded in the direction of the basic body are in each case arranged on the clamping elements and on the basic body. One locking element is thus located on the side of the clamping element directed towards the basic body of the fastening device. If the clamping element is folded in the direction of the basic body, this locking element locks when in contact with a corresponding locking element on the basic body.

The basic body of the fastening device can be designed in different ways, wherein the shape and dimensions are selected in such a way that the basic body does not have any disturbing effect in the rear region of the vehicle structure. The basic body is preferably made of plastic, as is the clamping element. For example, the basic body is designed in such a way that installation of the bumper is facilitated in addition to the installation of the additional component. In particular, the basic body of the fastening device can be formed for this purpose by a supporting body and a contact plate, wherein the contact plate bears against the vehicle body part while the supporting body protrudes from the vehicle body part when the fastening device is connected as intended. The contact plate then has, for example, at least one fastening hole for fastening the fastening device to the body part. However, it is also possible to provide only one recess, for example by a different suitable mechanical arrangement of a ball-shaped retaining bolt and a corresponding counter element or the like, or for example an adhesive connection with a two-component adhesive for fixing. It is also possible to provide for the fixing a plug-in element with a tip, which is unfolded relative to the web and inserted into the end opening and moved along the longitudinal opening. The longitudinal bore adjoining the end bore has an inner diameter adapted to the web arranged below the tip end (i.e. smaller than the end bore) and thus ensures retention.

The supporting body of the basic body has, for example, the shape of a hollow shell formed by a plurality of walls projecting from the contact plate and thus from the bodywork component. After the fastening device and the additional component have been mounted, one of the walls bears against the body component with a gap below the underside of the additional component. The cladding of the bumper can be pushed into this gap.

In summary, the fastening device according to the invention with the associated mounting method thus provides an advantageous possibility of mounting the additional component into the body part of the vehicle in a well fitting, flush and with a predetermined gap size. The fastening device can also be used here as a reference for the subsequent mounting of the bumper cladding. The dimensions of the gap between the attachment part and the body part and the dimensions of the gap between the attachment part and the bumper and the dimensions of the gap between the bumper and the body part can thus be reliably set, i.e. retained and reproduced.

Detailed Description

In the different figures, the rear lamp is shown as an additional component. Identical components always have the same reference numerals and are therefore generally also described only once. Furthermore, terms such as "bottom" or "top" are used to refer to components of the vehicle in an installed state. Terms such as "front side" or "rear side" refer to the mounting part as seen from the rear side of the vehicle in the mounted state.

The vehicle body area shown in fig. 1 includes a right rear body side panel 10 that is adjoined on the left by a trunk opening. The right rear lamp 20 is attached to the vehicle body member 10 together with the fastening device 30. The fastening device 30 is disposed below the rear lamp 20 and abuts against the vehicle body member 10 through the contact plate 33. Two fastening holes 34 and 35 are provided, and the fastening device 30 can be fixed to the vehicle body member 10 through the fastening holes 34 and 35. Furthermore, the fastening device 30 has a support body 31, which support body 31 projects from the vehicle body part 10. The support body 31 is formed of a plurality of walls, and one of the walls extending substantially horizontally is located below the lower side of the rear lamp 20 with a gap.

Fig. 2 shows the body member 10 prior to attachment of the fastening device and the rear lamp. The body component 10 has an insertion hole 12 for attaching a fastening device. In the region of this insertion opening 12, two holes 14,15 are also provided in the body part 10, through which holes 14,15 a screw connection is guided during the connection of the fastening device in order to fix the fastening device to the body part. A recess 11 is formed in the vehicle body side panel 10, and a rear lamp can be flush-mounted in the recess 11. Further, a contact base 13 formed of, for example, a silicone base is provided in the contact area between the rear lamp and the vehicle body member 10. The silicone base 13 is located in the upper edge region of the recess 11.

An exemplary embodiment of the fastening device 30 is shown in fig. 3, fig. 3 showing the fastening device from the front. Contact plate 33 and support body 31 can be seen, support body 31 being formed as a hollow shell by a plurality of walls. The clamping element 40, which is formed elastically on the support body 31, is located on the upper side of the support body 31. The supporting body 31 and the contact plate 33 form the basic body of the fastening device, from which the clamping element 40 projects rearwards. In the mounted state, the clamping element 40 is thus directed toward the body part, with a small area of the body part 10 shown schematically in fig. 3. The hook-shaped fastening elements 32 project from the basic body of the fastening device 30 at the rear side of the basic body of the fastening device 30. The fastening device 30 is hooked into the insertion hole 12 in the vehicle body member 10 by the hook 32. The sealing ring 50 is here arranged between the fastening device 30 and the body part 10. Further, the hook 32 is hooked into the receptacle 12 with clearance and can move upward within the receptacle 12.

The clamping element 40 has a plurality of partial regions. The clamping element 40 is essentially formed by a base plate 43, from the upper side of which two spaced apart wings 41 and 42 project. The wings 41,42 extend from the support body 31 towards the free end of the base plate 43 and thus towards the free end of the clamping element 40. The two wings 41,42 extend parallel to each other and have respective slide rails 44 and 45 on their inner sides. The slide rails 44,45 are formed by channels in the wings 41, 42. A locking element 46 projects downwardly from the underside of the base plate 42. The locking element 46 has a locking lug 47, which locking lug 47 points towards the rear side of the support body 31.

The rear lamps may be connected to the clamping element 40 by respective guide elements. The guide elements are here partially engaged from the inside in the channels of the slide rails 44,45 by being pushed from the front into the channels of the slide rails 44, 45. Fig. 3 schematically shows two such guide elements 21 and 22, wherein no rear vehicle lamp is shown, on which the guide elements are formed. The preassembled combination of the fastening device 30 and the rear lamp can thus be hooked into the receptacle 12 in the body part 10 by means of the hook 32. Furthermore, the rear lamps are preferably positioned on the body part 10 by means of a suitable positioning system. Of course, the fastening device 30 can also be hooked or inserted or preassembled separately without a previously installed rear vehicle lamp in the first place.

The rear lamp is pushed upward in this position. This is achieved by clamping the pre-assembled combination of the fastening device 30 and the rear light between the reference point of the rear light and the receptacle 12, wherein the effective force is indicated in fig. 3 by two opposing arrows. The rear lamp is thus constantly urged by the clamping element 40 against its reference point on the body part. Furthermore, the base plate 43 is flexibly connected to the support body 31 in such a way that its position relative to the support body 31 can be changed. In particular, the base plate 43 can be folded down in the direction of the rear side of the support body 31, as a result of which the clamping element 40 is deflected by the spring force. This deflected position is shown in fig. 4. The position of fig. 4 is achieved by the rear lamp being fixed to the body member 10 and subsequently pushing the body of the fastening device 30 upwards. In fig. 4, the hook 32 is thus moved upwards within the receptacle 12. The locking element 46 on the underside of the clamping element 40 is here moved towards the rear of the support body 31 to such an extent that it can be locked there together with the respective locking element.

Fig. 5 and 6 show these operations at different angles from the rear side of the fastening device 30. Further, the rear lamp 20 and a part of the details of the guide member 21 of the rear lamp 20 are shown. The guide element 21 is partially pushed into a slide 44 on the clamping element 40 for the connection between the rear vehicle lamp 20 and the fastening device 30. As does the second guide element in the other slide rail (not shown). So that the rear lamp 20 and the fastening device 30 are connected to each other in such a manner that they can be co-located on the vehicle body member 10.

Fig. 5 shows by way of example that a hook 32 for this purpose is provided on the rear side of the contact plate 33. The locking edge 48, which is schematically shown and can be locked to the locking lug 47 of the clamping element 40, is also located on the rear side of the support body 31. However, this locking has not occurred in the pre-assembly of the rear lamp 20 and the fastening device 30 shown in fig. 5.

After the headlight 20 and the fastening device 30 are positioned on the body part, the headlight 20 is moved further in the direction of the body part by the guide elements 21,22 being moved further through the slide rails 44, 45. This movement of the rear lamp 20 is indicated by an arrow in fig. 5. The rear vehicle lamp 20 is furthermore pushed upward here against a reference point by the spring action of the clamping element 40 and can be fixed to the vehicle body part. As shown by the upward arrows in fig. 6, the basic body of the fastening device 30 (i.e., the support body 31 and the contact plate 33) is then manually pushed upward by the fitter in the direction of the rear lamp 20. Since the position of the clamping element 40 is fixed in space, the latter is folded with respect to the basic body of the fastening device 30 to such an extent that the locking lugs 47 of the clamping element 40 lock together with the locking edges 48 of the basic body. The clamping element 40 and the basic body now form a substantially rigid unit which holds the support body 31 in a defined position relative to the rear vehicle lamp 20. Furthermore, a defined gap has occurred between the support body 31 and the underside of the rear lamp 20, into which the cladding of the bumper can be introduced. Fig. 6 schematically shows a portion of such a bumper cladding 70.

Fig. 7-9 show an enlarged view of a possible embodiment of the clamping element 40 of the fastening device. The clamping element 40 again has a base plate 43, on which base plate 43 two wings 44 and 45 extending in parallel are formed transversely. On the inner side of the wings respective slide rails 41,42 are formed. The base plate 43 is resiliently connected to the fastening means by a spring tongue 49. However, the elastic connection may also take other forms. A locking element 46 with a locking lug 47 is formed on the underside of the base plate 43. For locking the connection, a locking edge 48 is provided on the rear side of the fastening device.

As can be gathered from fig. 8, the rear vehicle lamp is pushed partially into the two slide rails 41 and 42 with the two guide elements 21 and 22. The fastening means may then be pushed upwards if the rear lamp is moved further in the direction of the body part and fixed to the body part. This results in the state according to fig. 9, in which the guide elements 21,22 are pushed completely into the sliding rails 44,45 and the clamping elements are folded down by the spring tongues 49. In this position the locking lugs 47 are locked together with the locking edges 48 and the fastening device can likewise be fixed to the body part.

The resulting arrangement of the fastening device 30 relative to the rear vehicle lamp 20 can also be gleaned from the side view of fig. 10. The fastening device 30 is fixed to the vehicle body member 10 by screw connections 51 and 52 and is located below the rear lamp 20 with a gap 60. The rear lamp 20 is pushed against the silicone base 13 in the upper region. Due to the fastening device's support body 31, which protrudes far from the body part 10, the bumper cladding can be placed on the support body 31.
