4. The CTV viral vector as recited in claim 1 wherein said at least gene cassettes further comprises steps comprising at least subgenomic mRNA control subelements upstream of said polynucleotide encoding a heterologous polypeptide.

A method of infecting trees to express a heterologous polypeptide, the method comprising transfecting at least cells of a tree with a CTV viral vector configured to comprise at least gene cassettes comprising a polynucleotide encoding a heterologous polypeptide, the CTV viral vector configured to have the gene cassettes located between the p13-p20 or p20-p23 regions of the CTV genome and to be expressed when a tree is infected.

6. The method as recited in claim 5, wherein said tree is a citrus tree.

7. The CTV viral vector as recited in claim 1 wherein said gene cassette further comprises steps of subgenomic mRNA control subelements located upstream of the polynucleotide encoding the heterologous polypeptide.

8. The vector of claim 1, wherein the CTV viral vector is constructed to comprise a plurality of gene cassettes at or more positions.

9. The vector of claim 8, wherein the CTV viral vector comprises at least two gene cassettes at sites and at least gene cassettes at different sites.

10. The method of claim 5, wherein the CTV viral vector is constructed to comprise a plurality of gene cassettes at or more positions.

11. The vector of claim 8, wherein the CTV viral vector comprises at least two gene cassettes at sites and at least gene cassettes at different sites.
