Technical Field

The present inventive concept relates to a child safety seat assembly, and more particularly, to a child safety seat assembly for supporting a child safety seat that is placed in a direction opposite to a driving direction and whose position is adjustable after the child safety seat assembly is inserted into a vehicle.

Background

The child is preferably placed in the vehicle in a rearward facing position in order to reduce the forces acting on the child's neck in case of an accident. The rearward facing position provides better protection in case of an accident. Often, the parent of the child places the child in a forward position long before recommending to do so. The reason for this may be that there is limited space for the child's legs, so the child begins to cry during driving. Other reasons may be that the child safety seat may be difficult to insert into the vehicle, or that the position adjustment of the child safety seat is difficult to manipulate. Another reason that the child seat is placed in the forward position may be that children of different ages or sizes may use the same child seat on different occasions, and therefore the position of the child safety seat must be adjusted between each child that should use the child safety seat. The present inventive concept seeks to provide a child safety seat assembly that is less complex to use and more easily adjustable to the size of the child than other prior art solutions.

Disclosure of Invention

It is an object of the present inventive concept to alleviate the above problems and to provide a child safety seat assembly which is at least to some extent less complex than prior art solutions. This and other objects that will become apparent hereinafter are achieved by a child safety seat assembly comprising an adjustable child safety seat as defined in the appended claims.

The inventive concept is based on the recognition that the position of the child safety seat arrangement is adjustable after it has been inserted into the vehicle. In particular, it has been recognized that a two-part arrangement may be provided in which a first part (such as a track) may be secured to a vehicle seat while allowing a second part (such as a child safety seat and associated components) to be displaceable relative to the first part.

According to at least a first aspect of the inventive concept, there is provided a child safety seat assembly for use in a rearward facing position. The child safety seat assembly includes:

a child safety seat and a base part to be placed on a vehicle seat and for holding the child safety seat, wherein the base part comprises

At least one of the tracks is provided with a track,

a pair of ISOFIX catches connected to the at least one rail and for connecting the base portion to the vehicle seat, an

A carriage connected to the at least one track for holding the child safety seat, wherein the carriage is movable along the at least one track with the child safety seat mounted thereon such that the position of the child safety seat is adjustable when the child safety seat assembly is connected to the vehicle seat.

Thus, the position of the child safety seat may be adjusted when the child safety seat assembly is secured in the vehicle. Thus, the user does not need to disassemble the child safety seat assembly in order to adjust the position of the child safety seat. It may be advantageous to adjust the child safety seat when the child safety seat assembly is inserted into the vehicle, as the user can more easily judge where the child safety seat fits, for example, in relation to the space of the legs of the child or in which the driver needs a good view while driving. It will be appreciated that the space occupied by the child safety seat may be disturbing for the driver. Having a child safety seat that is easily adjustable to the driver can thus eliminate the annoying occupied area of the child safety seat assembly that obstructs the driver's correct view. In addition, when the vehicle is being driven by different drivers, each driver may want to adjust the child safety seat assembly so that the field of view is as large as possible. It would therefore be advantageous to have a child safety seat assembly that is adjustable to the driver without requiring the child safety seat assembly to be removed from the vehicle seat. In addition, it is possible that the driver fastens the child safety seat assembly in the vehicle before the child is seated on the child safety seat, whereby the child does not have enough space to accommodate his/her legs and the position of the child safety seat has to be adjusted afterwards. Thus, the child safety seat may be adjusted without releasing the child safety seat assembly from the vehicle seat.

In addition, the child safety seat assembly may be used with children of different sizes and may be adjusted for each child without requiring disassembly of the child safety seat assembly for adjustment.

It may be advantageous to adjust the position of the child safety seat such that the child safety seat is in a forward position when viewed from the front side when the child safety seat assembly is to be inserted into a vehicle. Thus, the volume occupied by the child safety seat assembly may be small. When the child safety seat assembly is installed in a vehicle, the child safety seat may be adjusted to a preferred position according to the appropriate circumstances.

According to at least one embodiment, the base portion comprises at least one rod or flat base on which the carriage can slide.

According to at least one example embodiment, the base portion is a chassis.

According to at least one exemplary embodiment, the base portion further comprises a middle portion connected to the at least one rail and the pair of ISOFIX latches are connected to the middle portion.

The term "rearward facing position" is understood herein and hereinafter to be a rearward facing position when viewed from the driver's seat.

According to at least one exemplary embodiment, the child safety seat assembly further comprises an adjustment device arranged on said child safety seat for adjusting the longitudinal position of said child safety seat along said at least one rail. In the present disclosure, the terms "longitudinal position" and "longitudinal direction" refer to a position/direction extending parallel to the length direction of the track.

Thus, the position of the carriage to which the child safety seat is connected can be adjusted by means of an adjustment device arranged on the child safety seat. In addition, arranging the adjustment device on the child safety seat may facilitate adjustment of the child safety seat, as the child safety seat may be mounted on top of the carriage. Thus, the adjustment device is easily accessible. The adjustment means provided on the child safety seat are easily accessible to the user, for example when the child safety assembly is inserted into the vehicle.

In an exemplary embodiment, the adjustment device is arranged on the carriage. Thus, the position of the carriage holding the child safety seat can be adjusted along the track by changing the position of the carriage, regardless of whether the child safety seat is connected to the carriage.

According to at least one exemplary embodiment, each track comprises a set of receiving openings distributed along the longitudinal direction of the track, and the carriage comprises at least one pin adapted to be connected to any opening of the set of receiving openings, such that the position of the carriage relative to the base part is fixed by the pin.

Thus, the carriage adapted to hold the child safety seat is prevented from moving relative to the base portion. Thus, the child safety seat connected to the carriage is prevented from moving relative to the base portion. It will be appreciated that the pins are adapted to releasably fix the position of the carriage to the base part. Thus, the space for the child's legs is adjustable.

It should be understood that a receiving opening may refer to any kind of hole, aperture, opening, cavity or perforation provided on the rail.

In an exemplary embodiment, the position of the carriage relative to the base portion is secured by any type of fastener suitable for connecting two or more components to each other.

According to at least one example embodiment, the adjustment device comprises an actuator on the back of the child safety seat, the actuator having a first state in which the carriage is prevented from sliding and a second state in which the child safety seat is movable along the base portion.

The possibility of adjusting the position of the child safety seat relative to the base portion therefore requires an activity by the user. That is, the child safety seat is prevented from moving as long as the actuator is maintained in the first state. However, by changing the actuator from the first state to the second state, the user may adjust the position of the child safety seat without having to detach the child safety seat from the base portion and without having to disengage the child safety seat assembly from the vehicle.

It should be understood that an actuator may generally refer to a locking mechanism that is unlocked by manual control.

An advantage of the actuator is that the position of the child safety seat can be adjusted without the aid of any tools.

According to at least one example embodiment, the adjustment device comprises a handle for adjusting the position of the child safety seat, and wherein the actuator is positioned to be connected to the handle such that manipulation of the actuator from the first state to the second state and position adjustment of the child safety seat can be managed simultaneously by one hand.

Thus, the position of the child safety seat is adjustable in that the user grips the grip of the handle and changes the actuator from the first state to the second state while pushing or pulling the child safety seat until the desired position is reached. Thus, the adjustment of the position of the child safety seat may be performed by one or both hands. When the desired position is reached, the user may release the handle, whereby the actuator may automatically return to the first state.

According to an exemplary embodiment, an actuator is located on the handle such that release of the actuator and position adjustment of the child safety seat may be managed by one or both hands simultaneously.

In an exemplary embodiment, the adjustment device comprises an actuator located on any external portion of the child safety seat. Thus, by manipulating the actuator from the first state to the second state by means of an actuator arranged at any position of the child safety seat, the adjustment of the child safety seat relative to the base part is manageable.

According to at least one example embodiment, the actuator is connected to at least one wire extending from the pin to the actuator, and wherein repositioning of the actuator from the first state to the second state disengages the pin from one of the set of receiving openings such that a longitudinal position of the child safety seat relative to the at least one rail is adjustable.

Thus, the actuator may be adapted to disable the pin from the track. For example, the actuator may be adapted to set the pin to retract from the track such that the position of the child safety seat relative to the track is adjustable.

The adjustment means may comprise a wire extending from the pin to the child safety seat. The wire is connected to the actuator and can be manually controlled by the actuator. Thus, the longitudinal position of the child safety seat relative to the base portion is adjustable.

According to at least one example embodiment, the pin includes a compression spring, and wherein the compression spring provides tension to the pin such that the pin is urged to connect to one of the sets of receiving openings when the pin is substantially aligned with one of the sets of receiving openings.

The compression spring thus ensures automatic connection of the carriage and the rail. In addition, the compression spring causes the fastening of the carriage to the rail to be automatically maintained once the pin is inserted in one of the receiving openings. Thus, a force is required to compress the spring and disengage the pin from the receiving opening.

In an exemplary embodiment, the pin connected to the line and adapted to secure the carriage to the track is a tension pin.

According to at least one example embodiment, the carriage comprises at least one wheel adapted to move within the at least one track, such that the carriage is movable within the at least one track.

It should be understood that the carriage may comprise any kind of sliding means (e.g. a bar, etc.) adapted for movement of the carriage relative to the track.

Thus, in case a child is seated on the child safety seat, a movement of the carriage relative to the rail is possible.

According to at least one example embodiment, the child safety seat is pivotally connected to the carriage at a first position, such that the child safety seat is adapted to tilt relative to the carriage at the first position.

Thus, the child safety seat may be tilted relative to the carriage. Thus, a child using the child safety seat may change his/her position in the child safety seat arrangement. In addition, the child safety seat assembly is suitable for children of different ages. That is, a smaller child may tend to sit in a child safety seat that is more reclined than a child safety seat that is suitable for a larger child.

According to at least one example embodiment, the child safety assembly includes a screw connecting the child safety seat to the carriage at a second position spaced from the first position, and wherein operation of the screw causes its length between the child safety seat and the carriage to change, the child safety seat being tilted against or away from a backrest of a vehicle seat.

Thus, the position of the child safety seat may be adjusted relative to the carriage by means of screws connecting the child safety seat to the carriage. The screw may be adjusted when the child safety seat assembly is attached to the vehicle. Thus, the child safety seat may tilt when the child safety seat assembly is inserted into the vehicle. Thus, the child safety seat must not need to be disassembled in order to change the inclination of the child safety seat.

It will be appreciated that the child safety seat being tiltable relative to the carriage means that the child safety seat is tiltable relative to the base portion.

The tilting may be performed when the child safety seat is connected to the base part and when the child safety assembly is anchored in the vehicle. In addition, the child safety seat can be reclined while the child is using the child safety seat assembly, such as when the child is sitting on the child safety seat.

In an exemplary embodiment, the length of the screw determines how much the child safety seat can be tilted relative to the carriage.

In an exemplary embodiment, the carriage is adapted to adjust the position of the child safety seat in two different ways, one way being to adjust the longitudinal position of the child safety seat relative to the track, and the other way being to adjust the tilt position of the child safety seat relative to the carriage so that the child safety seat can be tilted more or less. Both of these adjustments may be performed when the child safety assembly is inserted into the vehicle and when a child is sitting in the child safety seat.

According to at least one example embodiment, the child safety seat assembly further comprises a bracket connected to the at least one rail and a support leg connected to the at least one rail such that the base portion has four anchor points.

Thus, an adjustment of the longitudinal position of the child safety seat relative to the base part is possible, wherein the base part is connected to the vehicle by means of ISOFIX, support legs and brackets anchored in the vehicle. There is no need to disassemble any anchor points in order to adjust the child safety seat.

According to at least one example embodiment, the child safety seat is secured to a child safety assembly such that the child safety assembly does not include parts that are intended to be removed from the child safety seat assembly.

Therefore, the child safety seat cannot be adapted to be replaced with a child safety seat of another size. Conversely, the child safety seat assembly may therefore be adapted for use with children of different ages and sizes.

Detailed Description

In the following description, the inventive concept is described in connection with a child safety seat assembly that includes a base portion and a child safety seat, and wherein the position of the child safety seat is adjustable when the child safety seat assembly is attached to a vehicle seat.

Fig. 1 illustrates a child safety seat assembly 1 inserted into a vehicle. The child safety assembly 1 includes a base portion 10 that is placed on a vehicle seat 70. The base portion 10 holds the child safety seat 50 in a rearward facing position. The base part 10 comprises a movable carriage 15 to which the child safety seat 50 is connected.

The base portion 10 is connected to the vehicle seat 70 by a pair of ISOFIX latches 80. (the latch 80 is connected to a pair of rails 100, as shown in fig. 2.) the base portion 10 illustrated in fig. 1 further includes a support leg 90 that presses against the floor of the vehicle and acts as a support for the base portion 10. The child safety seat assembly 1 illustrated in fig. 1 further comprises a bracket 20 arranged to press against a backrest 72 of the vehicle seat. Like the support legs 90, the stand 20 acts as a support for the base portion 10. The bracket 20 is adapted to prevent the base portion 10 from tilting relative to the vehicle seat 70 in the event of an accident.

In fig. 1, the adjustment device 40 comprising the handle 55 is arranged on the back side of the child safety seat. Handle 55 is arranged to adjust the position of child safety seat 50 along base portion 10 such that the position of the child safety seat relative to the rear seat can be changed by movable carriage 15 connected to child safety seat 50. For example, the child safety seat 50 may be positioned adjacent the backrest 72 when no child is seated on the child safety seat assembly 1. Thus, the child safety seat 50 does not interfere with the driver's view when the child safety seat assembly is mounted on the front seat. On the other hand, if the child safety seat assembly 1 is to be used by a child with long legs, the child safety seat 50 may be positioned farther from the rear seat 72 to allow the child more room for his/her legs.

For clarity, fig. 2 illustrates parts of the child safety seat assembly 1 without covers, padding or the like in a partially exploded view. The child safety seat assembly 1 in fig. 2 comprises a frame 30 for the child safety seat 50 illustrated in fig. 1. The frame 30 is connected to the carriage 15. The carriage 15 is arranged to hold the frame 30 and is movable along a pair of rails 100 positioned on the vehicle seat 70, as shown in fig. 1. The ISOFIX catches 80 arranged to secure the child safety seat assembly 1 to the vehicle seat 70 as shown in figure 1 are connected to respective rails 100. The carriages 15 are fastened to the track 100 by pins 42 located inside the respective carriage 15 edges so that the carriages 15 and the child safety seat 50 are in a fixed position and are prevented from sliding along the track 100. Each pin 42 is connected to a wire 44. Wires 44 in fig. 2 extend from pins 42 to the rear of child safety seat 50 where they are connected to adjustment device 40. The adjustment means comprise an actuator 46 arranged on said handle 55. By operating the actuator 46 (e.g., moving or sliding therein), the wire 44 pulls the pin 42 from the track 100, such that the carriage 15 is disengaged from the track 100. The carriage 15 and the child safety seat 50 attached to the carriage 15 can then be moved along the track 100 such that the position of the child safety seat 50 is changed. Thus, the actuator 46 can be considered to have a first state in which the pin 42 locks the carriage 15 to the track 100 and a second state in which the carriage 15 is disengaged. After returning the actuator 46 to its first state, the pin 42 will lock the carriage 15 in a new position along the track 100.

Fig. 3a illustrates the carriage 15. The carriage comprises three wheels 16 on each side of the carriage 15. However, other numbers of wheels, such as two, are also contemplated. The wheels 16 are arranged to move within the track 15, as shown in figure 2. The carriage 15 further comprises a first receiving opening 17 arranged on each side of the carriage 15 and to which a pin 42 is arranged to be connected, as shown in fig. 2. The carriage 15 comprises a first bar 13 and a second bar 12 extending substantially perpendicular to the pair of rails 10 on which the carriage is arranged, as shown in fig. 2.

Fig. 3b illustrates that the carriage 15 has a receiving opening 17 to which the pin 42 is arranged to be connected. As shown in fig. 1, the pin 42 is further arranged to fit into one of a set of receiving openings 101 located on each of a pair of rails 100 adapted to rest on the vehicle seat. The receiving openings 101 are distributed along the longitudinal direction of the rail 100. The position of the child safety seat 50 is adjusted by changing the receiving opening of the set of receiving openings 101 into which the pin 42 is inserted. The pin 42 is adjusted by said adjustment means 40 arranged on the child safety seat 50 (as shown in fig. 1 and 2) and arranged to provide a movable child safety seat 50. Fig. 3b also illustrates how the pin 42 is connected to a wire 44 which is connected to an actuator 46 provided on the back of a child safety seat 50, as shown in fig. 2.

Fig. 3b further illustrates the first and second bars 13, 12 illustrated in fig. 3 a. Child safety seat 50 is pivotally connected to carriage 15 at first position 18.

Fig. 4 illustrates the carriage 15 and the adjustment device 40 in a detailed view, the adjustment device comprising an actuator 46 arranged to release the carriage 15 from the pair of rails 100 (as shown in fig. 2 and 3 b) such that the carriage 15 is free to move along the rails 100 under the influence of a manual impact. A compression spring 43 is connected to the pin 42. The compression spring 43 is arranged to push the pin 42 into one of the set of receiving openings 101 so that the carriage is fixed to the rail 100. Moving the actuator 46 to its second state causes the wire 44 to pull the pin 42 against the force of the spring 43.

Fig. 5a and 5b illustrate in side view how the child safety seat 50 illustrated in fig. 1 is tilted. A child safety seat 50 (here, in fig. 5a and 5b, only the frame 30 of the child safety seat is illustrated for clarity) is pivotally connected to the carriage 15 at the first position 18. The child safety seat 50 is also connected to the carriage 15 at a second position 19 located behind the first position 18, as seen in the direction of travel. The second position 19 is a pivotal connection point like the first position 18. Child safety seat 50 is connected to carriage 15 by screws 20. The screw 20 is pivotally connected to the carriage at a third position 21. By rotating the screw 20, the length of the screw between the carriage 15 and the child safety seat 50 is changed, and thus the child safety seat 50 is tilted forward or backward depending on the direction in which the screw 20 is rotated. The child safety seat 50 illustrated in fig. 5a has an upright position and the screw length between the child safety seat 50 and the carriage 15 is short. In contrast, the child safety seat 50 illustrated in fig. 5b has a tilted position and the length of the screw between the child safety seat 50 and the carriage 15 is longer.
