Detailed Description
The advantages, features, and methods of attaining the advantages and features of the invention will become apparent by reference to the embodiments described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. However, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments disclosed below, and may be implemented in various forms different from each other, and the embodiments only make the disclosure of the present invention complete, and provide those skilled in the art to which the present invention pertains for fully informing the scope of the invention, which is defined only by the scope of the claims.
When an element (elements) or layer is located "on" or "on" another element or layer, it includes not only the case where the element or layer is directly located on the other element or layer but also the case where the other layer or element is sandwiched therebetween. Conversely, references to an element being "directly on" or "directly over" indicate that there are no other elements or layers in between.
Spatially relative terms such as "below", "lower", "above", "upper", and the like may be used to facilitate understanding of the relationship between one element or constituent and another element or constituent. Spatially relative terms, when used in the orientation of an illustration or operation, should be understood to encompass different orientations of the elements. For example, in the case of turning over illustrated elements, elements described as "below" other elements may be located "above" the other elements. Thus, "lower" as an illustrative term may include both an upper and lower direction. Elements may also be oriented in other directions, and spatially relative terms may be interpreted along the orientation.
The same reference numbers will be used throughout the specification to refer to the same or like parts.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a display device according to an embodiment, fig. 2 is a schematic partial cross-sectional view of the display device according to the embodiment, and fig. 3 is a layout view of signal wirings in a panel bending region according to the embodiment.
In the plan view of fig. 1, the directions of up, down, left, and right are defined for convenience of explanation. The up-down direction is a longitudinal or column direction, and the left-right direction is a lateral or row direction. The directions mentioned in the embodiments should be understood as referring to opposite directions, and the embodiments are not limited to the mentioned directions.
Referring to fig. 1 to 3, the display device DD displays moving images or still images, and may be used not only for portable electronic devices such as mobile phones, smart phones, desktop pcs (personal computers), smart watches, watch phones, mobile communication terminals, electronic manuals, electronic books, pmps (portable Multimedia players), navigators, umpcs (ultra mobile pcs), and the like, but also for display screens of various products such as televisions, notebook computers, monitors, advertisement boards, and internet of things. Examples of the display device DD include an organic light emitting display device, a liquid crystal display device, a plasma display device, a field emission display device, an electrophoretic display device, an electrowetting display device, a quantum dot display device, a micro light emitting diode display device, and the like. Hereinafter, an organic light emitting display device will be described as an example of the display device, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
The display device DD may include a display panel DM. The display panel DM may include a flexible substrate including a flexible high molecular substance such as polyimide or the like. Accordingly, the display panel DM may be bent, folded, or curled.
The display panel DM may include a main region MR and a bending region BD extending from one side of the main region MR. The display panel DM may further include a sub region SR connected to the bending region BD and overlapping the main region MR in the thickness direction.
In the display panel DM, when a portion where a screen is displayed is defined as a display region DA and a portion where a screen is not displayed is defined as a non-display region NDA, the display region DA of the display panel DM is located in the main region MR. In addition to the remaining portion of the display area DA belonging to the non-display area NDA of the display panel DM, in an embodiment, in the main area MR, it may be that the peripheral edge portion of the display area DA, the entire curved area BD, and the entire sub area SR are the non-display area NDA. However, without being limited thereto, the bending region BD and/or the sub region SR may include the display region DA.
The main region MR may have a shape substantially similar to the outer shape on the plane of the display device DD. The main region MR may be a flat region located in one plane. However, not limited thereto, in the main region MR, at least one edge among remaining edges other than the edge (side) connected to the bent region BD may form a curved surface or be bent in a vertical direction.
The display area DA of the display panel DM may be disposed in the central portion of the main area MR. The display area DA may include a plurality of pixels. Each pixel may include a light emitting layer and a circuit layer controlling a light emission amount of the light emitting layer. The circuit layer may include a display wiring, a display electrode, and at least one transistor. The light-emitting layer may contain an organic light-emitting substance. The light emitting layer may be sealed by an encapsulation film. The specific structure of each pixel will be described later.
The display area DA may have a rectangular shape or a rectangular shape with rounded corners. However, the display area DA is not limited thereto, and may have various shapes such as a square, other polygon, or a circle, an ellipse, and the like.
In the main region MR, in addition to the case where at least one of the remaining edges of the edge (side) connected to the bent region BD is curved or bent, the display region DA may be disposed at the corresponding edge. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the non-display area NDA where no screen is displayed may be disposed at a curved or bent edge, or the non-display area NDA may be disposed together with the display area DA.
In the main region MR, a non-display region NDA may be disposed at the periphery of the display region DA. The non-display region NDA of the main region MR may be located in a region from an outer boundary of the display region DA up to an edge of the display panel DM. In the non-display region NDA of the main region MR, signal lines SL or gate driving circuits GD (see fig. 4) for applying signals to the display region DA may be arranged. In addition, although the outermost black matrix may be disposed in the non-display area NDA of the main area MR, the present invention is not limited thereto.
The bending region BD is arranged between the main region MR and the sub region SR, and at least one of the two outer profiles OT-L may include a curved portion. For example, in the curved region BD, two outer profile lines OT-L connecting one side of the main region MR and one side of the sub region SR may be curved portions having the same curvature. The distance between the two outer profiles OT-L (refer to fig. 4) may gradually decrease from the main region MR toward the sub region SR.
In the bending region BD, the display panel DM may be bent with a curvature in a thickness direction toward a lower direction, in other words, toward an opposite direction of the display surface. The curved area BD may have a certain radius of curvature, but is not limited thereto, and may have a different radius of curvature by section. As the display panel DM is bent in the bending region BD, the plane of the display panel DM is inverted. That is, the following modifications may be made: one surface of the display panel DM facing the upper portion faces outward through the bending region BD and then faces the lower portion again.
The sub-region SR extends from the bending region BD. The sub region SR may start to extend toward a direction parallel to the main region MR after the bending is finished. The sub region SR may overlap the main region MR in the thickness direction of the display panel DM when the bending region BD is bent. The sub region SR may overlap with the non-display region NDA of the edge of the main region MR, and further may overlap to the display region DA of the main region MR.
The width of the sub area SR may be the same as that of the bending area BD, but is not limited thereto.
A driving chip IC may be disposed on the sub region SR of the display panel DM. The driving chip IC may include an integrated circuit that drives the display panel DM. In one embodiment, the integrated circuit may be a data driving integrated circuit that generates the data signal to be provided, but is not limited thereto. The driving chip IC may be mounted to the display panel DM in the sub region SR. The driving chip IC is mounted on one face of the display panel DM that is the same face as the display face, but is mounted on the face of the display panel DM facing downward in the thickness direction as the bending region BD is bent and inverted as described above, so that the upper face of the driving chip IC may face downward.
The driving chip IC may be attached to the display panel DM by an anisotropic conductive film or attached to the display panel DM by ultrasonic bonding. The lateral width of the driving chip IC may be smaller than that of the display panel DM. The driving chip IC may be disposed at a lateral central portion of the sub region SR, and a left edge and a right edge of the driving chip IC may be spaced apart from the left edge and the right edge of the sub region SR, respectively.
A PAD portion PAD may be provided at an end of the sub region SR of the display panel DM, and a printed circuit board FPC may be connected to the PAD portion PAD. The printed circuit substrate FPC may be a flexible printed circuit substrate or a film.
A plurality of signal wirings SL may be arranged in the sub region SR, the bent region BD, and the main region MR. The signal wiring SL may extend from the sub region SR to the main region MR through the bending region BD. A part of the signal wiring SL (e.g., the initialization voltage line, the voltage line, and the control signal line) may extend from an end of the sub region SR to the bending region BD and to the main region MR without passing through the driving chip IC. Another portion of the signal wiring SL (e.g., the data line DL) may run from the end of the sub region SR to the bending region BD via the driving chip IC and extend to the main region MR. In the case of the signal wiring SL passing through the driver chip IC, a fan-out region (fan-out) may be formed to be wider as it proceeds from the sub region SR and/or the bending region BD to the main region MR side in order to cover the entire main region MR having a width wider than the driver chip IC. The signal wiring SL not via the driving chip IC may run along the outside of the signal wiring SL via the driving chip IC.
The signal wiring SL passing through the bending area BD is bent together with the panel being bent, and thus may be subjected to a bending pressure. The bending pressure may cause cracks or disconnections of the signal wiring SL, and the signal wiring SL passing through the bending region BD may be formed of a more flexible substance in order to prevent the bending pressure.
The bending area BD may include a first structure CP. The first structure CP can prevent the crack from spreading toward the signal wiring SL when the crack occurs. The first structure CP may be disposed adjacent to the curved portion of the panel bending region.
Fig. 4 is a layout diagram showing signal wirings in the entire area of the display panel according to the embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to fig. 4, the display panel DM may include a main region MR, a bending region BD, and a sub region SR. The main region MR includes a display region DA and a non-display region NDA on a plane. The main region MR includes a plurality of pixels PX. A region where the plurality of pixels PX are arranged is defined as a display region DA. In the present embodiment, the non-display area NDA may be defined along an edge of the display area DA.
The main region MR includes a plurality of gate lines GL, data lines DL, light emitting lines EL, control signal lines SL-D, initialization voltage lines SL-Vint, and voltage lines SL-VDD. Each gate line GL is connected to a corresponding pixel PX of the plurality of pixels PX, and each data line DL is connected to a corresponding pixel PX of the plurality of pixels PX. Each of the light emitting lines EL may be arranged side by side with a corresponding gate line of the gate lines GL. The control signal lines SL-D may supply control signals to the gate driving circuit GD. The initialization voltage line SL-Vint may supply an initialization voltage to the plurality of pixels PX. The voltage lines SL to VDD are connected to the plurality of pixels PX, and may supply the first voltage to the plurality of pixels PX. The voltage lines SL-VDD may include a plurality of lines extending in the first direction DR1 and a plurality of lines extending in the
A gate driving circuit GD connected to the gate line GL and the light-emitting line EL may be disposed on one side of the non-display area NDA. The gate line GL, the data line DL, the light emitting line EL, the control signal line SL-D, the initialization voltage line SL-Vint, and the voltage line SL-VDD are partially disposed in the same layer and partially disposed in different layers.
The bending region BD may include two outer profiles OT-L, a plurality of signal wirings SL, and a first structure CP. The two outer contour lines OT-L are contour lines extending along the first direction DR1, and may be contour lines connecting the main region MR and the sub region SR. The signal wiring SL may connect the wiring of the main region MR and the wiring of the sub region SR. The first structure CP may be disposed between each of the two outer profiles OT-L and the plurality of signal wirings SL.
Fig. 4 shows a state before both ends of the bending region BD and the main region MR are bent. In this case, the main region MR, the bending region BD, and the sub region SR may be sequentially arranged along the first direction DR 1. A first width WT1 of the main region MR parallel to the second direction DR2 may be greater than a second width WT2 of the bending region BD parallel to the
On the other hand, the shape of the original substrate SUB _ pre before cutting, illustrated with a dotted line in fig. 4, may be a rectangular shape. In order to form the display device DD in which four corners are chamfered and the connection portion of the main region MR and the curved region BD of the panel has an L-cut shape, cutting may be performed along the cutting line CL by a laser LS (see fig. 15). The cutting line CL may be cut by a laser cutting method or the like. The first structure CP can prevent the signal wiring SL from being damaged by a crack generated when the cutting line CL is cut by laser cutting or the like.
Fig. 5 is an equivalent circuit diagram of a pixel PX according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Fig. 5 illustrates a pixel PX connected to a certain gate line GL, a certain data line DL, and a voltage line SL-VDD. The configuration of the pixel PX is not limited to this, and may be implemented by changing the configuration.

The pixel PX may include a first transistor TFT1 (or a switching transistor), a second transistor TFT2 (or a driving transistor), and a capacitor CAP as a circuit part for driving the organic light emitting diode OLED.
The first transistor TFT1 outputs a data signal to be applied to the data line DL in response to a scan signal applied to the gate line GL. The capacitor CAP charges a voltage corresponding to the data signal received from the first transistor TFT 1.
The second transistor TFT2 is connected to the organic light emitting diode OLED. The second transistor TFT2 controls a driving current flowing through the organic light emitting diode OLED corresponding to the amount of charge stored in the capacitor CAP. The organic light emitting diode OLED emits light during the on period of the

The light emitting element layer DP-OLED includes a light emitting region PXA and a non-light emitting region NPXA adjacent to the light emitting region PXA. The non-light emitting region NPXA may surround the light emitting region PXA. The light-emitting region PXA may be defined to correspond to a partial region of the anode AE exposed through the opening OP.

When the outer contour line OT-L is formed through the laser cutting process, cracks may occur in the main region MR, the bending region BD, and the sub-region SR. In addition, the bending region BD is a region that is bent, unlike the main region MR and the sub region SR, and the crack generated may continue to grow and spread. When the plurality of crack prevention tables CD and the at least one crack prevention groove CG arranged between the plurality of crack prevention tables are arranged in parallel with the outer contour line OT-L, it is possible to prevent the generated crack from spreading toward the signal wiring SL. That is, defects due to pressure applied to the bending area BD can be reduced, and reliability of products and manufacturing yield can be improved.

Referring to fig. 9, the first structure CP may be disposed between the signal wiring SL and the outer profile line OT-L on a plane. In plan, the first structure CP may be arranged separately from the outer contour OT-L. In this case, it is possible to prevent a crack, which may occur during the formation of the outer contour line OT-L, from spreading toward the signal wiring SL. At least one of the two outer contours OT-L may include a curved portion. For example, the distance between the two outer profiles OT-L of the bending region BD may gradually decrease from the main region MR toward the sub region SR. The first structure CP may include a crack prevention land CD and a crack prevention groove CG extending along an outer profile OT-L having a curved portion. The crack prevention lands CD and the crack prevention grooves CG may be aligned along a second direction DR2 crossing the first direction DR 1. Since the first structure CP includes the crack prevention lands CD and the crack prevention grooves CG in the slit shape, even if a part of the pattern of the first structure CP is cracked, the crack can be prevented from being propagated.

In the process of forming the fifth through hole CH5 penetrating the fourth insulating
The step S120 of forming the anti-crack stage may further include the step of forming the anti-crack stage CD by applying the pixel defining film PDL on the etched at least one planarization film and etching the pixel defining film PDL in the bending area BD.
An organic layer forming the pixel defining film PDL may be coated on the plurality of anti-crack tables CD including the fourth insulating
In the process of forming the opening OP of the light-emitting region PXA in the display region DA, the plurality of crack prevention mesas CD including the organic layer for forming the pixel defining film PDL and the crack prevention grooves CG may be simultaneously formed in the bending region BD. On the other hand, on the signal wiring SL disposed on the fourth insulating
A step (S130) may be included between the substrate SUB cutting the anti-crack table CD with the laser LS.
In order to form the display device DD, of which four corners are chamfered and a connection portion of the main region MR and the curved region BD of the panel has an L-cut shape, from the original substrate SUB _ pre, cutting may be performed with the laser LS along the cutting line CL. The cutting line CL may be cut by a laser cutting method or the like. The laser may utilize Green-CO2。
The plurality of crack prevention stages CD and the crack prevention groove CG formed between the plurality of crack prevention stages CD may be symmetrically formed with reference to the cutting line CL. This prevents the cracks from spreading in the direction of the original substrate SUB _ pre from which the display device DD is not formed but removed. That is, the first structure CP can prevent the signal wiring SL from being damaged by a crack generated when the cutting line CL is cut by laser dicing or the like.
