Technical Field

The present invention relates to a connection assembly for a fluid conduit installation, and a method of manufacturing a connection assembly.

Background

In the field of sanitary installations, it is known to use hoses for connecting pipes, for example, sanitary water pipes in walls, to sanitary outlet fittings mounted in wash basins. A typical arrangement for the hose is formed by an inner tube and a braided coating (woven coating) which serves to maintain the integrity of the heat pipe at operating pressures or over-pressure due to valve closure (e.g. water hammer effect).

To achieve the connection of the two ends of the hose, metal fittings may be used, which may have different geometries, but which are generally based on connecting the flexible member to the two connection points in a threaded manner.

The attachment of the assembly formed by the different parts of the pipe (for example, the metal fitting, the inner pipe and the outer pipe) is achieved by mechanical connection, in the case of which the different parts of the pipe are the metal fitting, the inner pipe and the outer pipe, by mechanical compression of the three parts by means of metal flanges. The assembly operation of the flanges is a calibrated compression process which must ensure perfect attachment between the different materials that make up the assembly, which is of great importance for the assembly, since it is necessary to ensure watertightness without any leaks.

In any case, all the connection systems consist of mechanical connections by applying pressure between the ends of the installation pipes. Therefore, there is a need to find an alternative solution that can guarantee water tightness in a simpler way without mechanical parts, thus reducing the number of components and simplifying the manufacturing process.

Another drawback found in such connection systems is that oxidation can occur on the outermost tubes, thereby shortening the service life of the system or meaning that the product is exiting the point of sale.

Further, the applicant is presently unaware of the existence of the invention having all the features described in the present application.

Disclosure of Invention

The present invention has been developed in response to the present invention to provide a novel coupling assembly and to address the above-discussed shortcomings, and in response, to provide other advantages in addition to addressing the above-discussed shortcomings, as will be apparent from the following description.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a connection assembly for a fluid conduit installation, the connection assembly comprising a tubular member made of flexible plastic for the passage of fluid therethrough, a base body having a woven mesh construction around the tubular member, and a connector attached to at least one end of the tubular member, characterised in that the connector is composed of injection mouldable plastic, enveloping the end of the assembly formed by the tubular member and the base body.

Advantageously, the woven mesh defines a plurality of interstices (interlactics) such that each interstice has a diameter of 0.04mm2The minimum surface area of (a). The presence of these voids increases the mechanical anchoring to obtain the necessary mechanical properties sufficient and suitable during its use.

Preferably, the woven mesh may be formed from a plurality of wires having a minimum diameter of 0.10 mm.

The object of the present invention is therefore a connection for hoses (also known in the art as "flexible hoses"), which, although based on a flexible connection system made entirely of polymeric material joined by current known techniques, are not in any case applied to this type of connection. Again, this means that no adhesive is required (which means that a particular device is to be provided).

Furthermore, the connection assembly provides for integrating the faucet bottom (tappase) itself as part of the system as a split component (discrete member), which allows to obtain 100% sealing of the assembly when all the components (inner tube, outer net, connection and faucet bottom) define a single integral watertight body by means of the adhesion achieved by the over-injection of all the elements and the respective polymeric material.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a method of manufacturing a connection assembly comprising a tubular member of flexible material for passing a fluid therethrough, a matrix having a woven mesh configuration around the tubular member, and a connector attached to at least one end of the tubular member, characterized in that the method comprises:

-placing the tubular element and the base body in a mould for injection moulding;

-encapsulating an injection mouldable plastic material to the end of the assembly formed by the tubular element and the base body for forming the connector such that the tubular element and the base body are partially tightly inserted into a through hole in the connector.

The advantage of using package molding with substrate insertion is that conventional injection molding machines can be used, thereby reducing manufacturing costs, eliminating metal parts and mechanical interfaces that can compromise the hermeticity of the assembly.

According to a further aspect of the invention, the tubular element has a protruding portion that is not surrounded by the base body, so that the protruding portion is covered by a plastic area that is part of the connection piece. This arrangement ensures tightness because the fact that this protruding part is made free of the base body allows for diffusion of the material forming part of the tubular element and the connecting piece.

Drawings

Further characteristics and advantages of the connection assembly, object of the present invention, will become clearer from the description of a preferred but not exclusive embodiment, illustrated by way of non-limiting example in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

FIG. 1 is a side view of a connection assembly according to the present invention;

FIG. 2 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view of a portion of the connection assembly;

FIG. 3 is a detail view with the connectors removed for clarity; and

fig. 4 is a detail view of the circle shown in fig. 3.

Detailed Description

Based on the foregoing drawings and in accordance with the reference numerals therein, an example of a preferred embodiment of the present invention may be observed in the figures, which include various parts and elements, which are pointed out and described in detail below.

As shown in fig. 1 and 2, a connecting assembly for fluid piping facilities according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a tubular member 1 made of flexible plastic as a pipe for circulating fluid therein, a base body 2 having a woven mesh (braidedesh) configuration around the tubular member 1, and a connecting member 3 attached to at least one end of the tubular member 3 for connecting with an inlet of, for example, a conventional faucet (not shown).

The tubular member 1 may be constructed of, for example, EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer).

Advantageously, the woven mesh formed on the base body 2 is mainly defined by a plurality of interstices (see fig. 3 and 4), so that each of the interstices 20 has a diameter of 0.04mm2The minimum surface area of (a). Furthermore, the woven mesh is formed by a plurality of wires 21 having a minimum diameter of 0.10 mm.

The outermost matrix 2 ensures that the tubular element 1 retains its geometry even under pressure and temperature conditions, since the matrix 2 provides radial reinforcement without limiting the flexibility of the tubular element 1.

The connecting element 3, which is made of injection-moldable plastic, is enclosed at the end of the assembly (set) formed by the tubular element 3 and the base body 2. For the encapsulation operation, techniques and means known in the art of encapsulation injection molding can be used and, therefore, they will not be described in detail.

In particular, the connection element 3 is formed by an elongated body 30, substantially cylindrical, the body 30 having a through hole 34 which is widened at its outward end and comprises fixing means (described in detail below) which facilitate a snap-fit connection with the connection element provided on a conventional tap.

In this non-limiting exemplary embodiment, the fixing means have a plurality of wedge-shaped flanges (flanges)31, radially arranged around the body forming the connection and defining a connection zone 32, this connection zone 32 being delimited by these flanges 31; the fixing means also have a circumferential projection 33 which projects circumferentially outwardly from the side wall of the connecting piece 3.

The details, shapes, dimensions and other accessory elements used for manufacturing the connecting assembly of the invention may be suitably replaced by other details, shapes, dimensions and accessory elements without departing from the scope defined by the claims.
