US 2003/0180498 a1 discloses a method for manufacturing an outer skin for forming a visible front surface of an interior trim part, which outer skin comprises at least one prefabricated insert comprising a rear side located at a distance behind the visible front surface. The outer skin is manufactured by applying at least one flowable outer skin material for producing an elastomeric, non-porous or microporous plastic skin on at least one surface of a mould and curing the flowable outer skin material. The prefabricated insert is bonded to the outer skin material before the structural carrier layer or the intermediate foam layer is attached to the rear side of the outer skin. Preferably, a reactive polyurethane mixture is used as the flowable outer skin material. Preferably, the prefabricated insert is at least partially adhesively fixed due to the adhesion of the flowable outer skin material itself before the above-mentioned material has completely cured.

US 5476618A discloses a resin laminate comprising a resin element consisting essentially of a first resin material, a thermoplastically produced resin film consisting of a second resin material, the resin film being derived from the group which can be mixed with the above first resin material and has a glass transition point lower than that of the above first resin material, and an expanded bead matrix consisting essentially of the above first resin material. An expanded bead matrix made of a plurality of resin expanded beads is disposed opposite to the resin member. The thermoplastic resin film adhesively connects the resin element to the expanded bead base body, so that the above resin film is melted again and hardened.

Disclosure of Invention

It is an object of the invention to provide a component which can be manufactured in a fast and cost-effective manner and which has at least one customizable surface portion.

According to the invention, this object is achieved by a component having the features of claim 1, the plastic layer of which contains a proportion of a heat-activatable blowing agent which is configured such that the temperature for producing the plastic layer is lower than the temperature for activating the blowing agent.

It should be pointed out that the features and measures listed individually in the following description can be combined with one another in any technically convenient manner and illustrate further configurations of the invention. The specification additionally particularly features and specifies the invention in connection with the drawings.

The component for a vehicle according to the invention, in particular a vehicle component, can be customized to a large extent, for example individually. For this purpose, the plastic layer of the component according to the invention must be subjected to only a local heat treatment, as a result of which a local chemical reaction of the foaming agent in the plastic layer is caused, whereby the foaming agent is locally heat-activated and foamed. The local foaming of the foaming agent leads to a local volume increase of the plastic layer. Since the component base body is configured to be dimensionally more stable than the plastic layer, during local foaming by the foaming agent, the surface of the plastic layer (which faces away from the component base body) is locally raised from the component base body in the region of a local volume increase, whereby the plastic layer obtains a visible three-dimensional surface design which is similar to a conventional surface with a stitched pattern.

The plastic layer is made of at least one plastic component and a foaming agent and therefore comprises a proportion of at least one plastic component in addition to a proportion of a foaming agent. The plastic layer may be of flexible or resilient construction and not dimensionally stable as the component substrate. The plastic layer can be configured, for example, in the form of a plastic film. The plastic layer may for example form a surface portion of the component according to the invention, which surface portion is arranged to face the passenger compartment of the vehicle when the component is arranged as intended.

Due to the fact that the temperature for producing the plastic layer is lower than the temperature for activating the foaming agent, which has not yet been foamed during the production of the plastic layer, a subsequent customization of the component according to the invention by means of a heat treatment is possible. In this way, the customized component according to the invention can be produced in a fast and cost-effective manner. Foaming of the foaming agent is also possible in the various components according to the invention, for example in the form of lining components for lining the passenger compartment of a vehicle. Furthermore, there is no limit as to the respectively desired customization of the components according to the invention during the foaming of the foaming agent. The local heat treatment of the plastic layer can be carried out, for example, by means of laser radiation or in another way. The local heat treatment of the plastic layer makes it possible to form, for example, names, symbols, images, etc. in a three-dimensional manner on the surface of the plastic layer.

The component base determines the basic shape of the component according to the invention and gives the component according to the invention its dimensional stability. In this case, the component base body serves to produce a firm connection between the component according to the invention and another vehicle component. The component substrate may be made of plastic or a lightweight composite material. The component substrate may be manufactured, for example, from a thermoplastic material. The component base can be manufactured by, for example, an injection molding process.

The component according to the invention may be a lining component for lining a vehicle interior, in particular a passenger compartment, of a vehicle. For example, the component according to the invention may be configured in the form of an instrument panel, a door trim, an armrest, a pillar trim, a glove box cover, or the like.

According to an advantageous configuration, the plastic layer comprises polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or is based on an olefin-based thermoplastic elastomer (TPO). In this way, the component can be provided with the required surface quality.

Another advantageous configuration provides for the plastic layer to be bonded to the component substrate. In this way, there is no need to attach the plastic layer to the part substrate by heat treatment, so that the attachment of the above-mentioned plastic layer to the part substrate does not thermally activate the foaming agent of the plastic layer. Thus, the component can only be customized after the plastic layer is attached to the component substrate.

According to another advantageous configuration, the foaming agent is foamed in specific areas so as to form at least one alphanumeric structure or at least one graphic item. The alphanumeric structure may be, for example, a name, a word, etc. The graphical item may be, for example, a symbol, an image, etc.

According to a further advantageous configuration, the component is a lining component for a vehicle interior. In this way, the interior of the vehicle (in particular the passenger compartment) can be customized or personalized by means of the component.

The above object is also achieved by a method having the features of claim 6, according to which at least one plastic layer forming a surface portion of the component is arranged in a material-bonded and planar manner on at least one sub-region of the component base body, said plastic layer containing a proportion of a heat-activated foaming agent which is configured in such a way that the temperature for producing the plastic layer is lower than the temperature for activating the foaming agent.

The advantages mentioned above with respect to the components correspond to this method. In particular, the component can be manufactured using the method according to one of the above-described configurations or at least two of these configurations in combination with one another.

According to an advantageous configuration, the plastic layer is partially made of polyvinyl chloride or an olefin-based thermoplastic elastomer. The advantages mentioned above in relation to the respective configuration of the components correspond to this configuration.

Another advantageous configuration provides for the plastic layer to be bonded to the component substrate. The advantages mentioned above in relation to the respective configuration of the components correspond to this configuration.

According to another advantageous configuration, the foaming agent is foamed in specific areas so as to form at least one alphanumeric structure or at least one graphical item. The advantages mentioned above in relation to the respective configuration of the components correspond to this configuration.

According to another advantageous configuration, the foaming agent is foamed using a laser beam. In this way, a very precise or local heat treatment of the plastic layer is possible.
