The control and evaluation unit (38) is configured to determine the object region as a region in which the object (48) moves by measuring the distance values and evaluating the distance values and/or changes thereof within a configuration time, and to automatically configure a region of interest (60) for the distance sensor (24) within a distance measurement field of view (58).)
