1. A playing card shuffler comprising:

a card holder capable of holding a plurality of playing cards;

a card container capable of receiving a plurality of playing cards from a card holder;

a band comprising a shelf sized to carry at least one of a plurality of playing cards, the band being positioned adjacent to the card receptacle and rotatable to capture the at least one of the plurality of playing cards from the card receptacle and carry the at least one of the plurality of playing cards in a direction of rotation of the band; and

a card shoe, comprising:

a chute arranged to receive playing cards from the belt and dimensioned to allow playing cards to enter the card receptacle along the chute, the chute including a chute opening, and

a card shoe passageway extending from the chute opening to the first passageway opening,

wherein the playing card shuffler is operable to selectively open a chute opening, the chute opening defining a shuffling mode when blocked to deliver a plurality of playing cards in the chute to the card receptacle, the chute opening defining a dealing mode when accessible to enable delivery of the plurality of playing cards in the chute to the card shoe access.

2. The playing card shuffler of claim 1 wherein the dealer channel is divided into a first channel opening or a second channel opening, and the dealer channel includes a channel gate to selectively block the dealer channel from either the first or second channel opening.

3. The playing card shuffler of claim 1 wherein said card loader comprises a plurality of card channels, each card channel sized to receive at least one of a plurality of playing cards.

4. The playing card shuffler of claim 3 further comprising a card holder support having a pair of rails,

wherein the card shoe includes a plurality of track slots, each track slot being provided in a pair of bottom walls extending downwardly from sides of the card shoe and each track slot being engageable with one of the pair of tracks.

5. The playing card shuffler of claim 4 further comprising a card shoe cover positionable to block a bottom end of the card path,

wherein each of the pair of bottom walls includes a cover slot sized to receive a card-holder cover.

6. The playing card shuffler of claim 1 further comprising:

a card counter having a card counter inlet aperture, a card counter outlet aperture, and a card counter conduit extending between the card counter inlet and outlet apertures,

wherein the card counter inlet aperture is located adjacent the card holder and the card counter outlet aperture is located above the card container.

7. The playing card shuffler of claim 6 wherein said card counter conduit includes at least one bend.

8. The playing card shuffler of claim 1 further comprising a rear receptacle arranged to directly receive playing cards carried by said belt, and having a sloped floor terminating at a chute entrance.

9. A playing card shuffler comprising:

a card holder capable of holding a plurality of playing cards;

a card container capable of receiving a plurality of playing cards from a card holder;

a belt capable of capturing and carrying at least one of a plurality of playing cards;

a card shoe, comprising:

a chute arranged to receive at least one of the plurality of playing cards from the belt and dimensioned to allow at least one of the plurality of playing cards to enter the card receptacle along the chute, the chute including a chute opening,

a card shoe passageway extending from the chute opening to the first passageway opening,

a card selector comprising a chute portion aligned with the chute and having a chute portion hole above the chute opening, and a dealing portion movable transversely across the chute portion,

wherein the playing card shuffler is operable to selectively move the dealing portion between a shuffling position and a dealing position,

wherein, at the shuffling position, the plurality of playing cards can pass through the sliding groove part, and at the dealing position, the plurality of playing cards can pass through the sliding groove opening and the sliding groove part hole.

10. The playing card shuffler of claim 9 wherein said dealing section includes a dealing section inlet and a dealing section outlet, and

wherein the card dealing position includes a second and third position, whereby the card dealing portion inlet is aligned with the chute portion in the second position and the card dealing portion outlet is aligned with the chute opening in the third position.

11. The playing card shuffler of claim 10 wherein said chute portion includes a projection and said dealing portion includes a gap sized to receive said projection and disposed adjacent a dealing portion entrance, said projection entering said gap as said projection moves between the second and third positions.

12. The playing card shuffler of claim 10 wherein said dealing section includes a sensor located near an entrance to the dealing section, the sensor operable to identify at least one of the plurality of playing cards.

13. The playing card shuffler of claim 10 wherein said dealing section includes an end post that contacts a side of the chute section when the dealing section is in the shuffling position.

14. The playing card shuffler of claim 10 wherein said dealing section inlet can only accommodate one of a plurality of playing cards at a time and only receive another of a plurality of playing cards after said one of a plurality of playing cards is delivered to the dealing section outlet.

15. The playing card shuffler of claim 14 wherein said dealing section includes a sensor for identifying said one of a plurality of playing cards located within a mouth of the dealing section.

16. The playing card shuffler of claim 10 wherein said chute portion includes a pair of chute portion tabs extending into said chute portion.

17. The playing card shuffler of claim 9 wherein the dealer channel is divided into a first channel opening or a second channel opening and the dealer channel includes a channel gate to selectively block the dealer channel from either the first or second channel opening.

Technical Field

The present disclosure relates generally to shufflers, and more particularly, to a shuffler for distributing cards for use in gaming.

Background

Many games utilize cards containing letters, numbers or symbols as part of the game play. For example, mahjongg and domino both involve placing tiles on a playing surface according to their respective rules.Is an example of a board game that includes playing cards, each card having letters and an associated score. In each example, the game involves the random selection of these playing cards by multiple players. However, cheating by players using cheating strategies to intentionally select particular cards rather than randomly select playing cards can be rampant. For example,the player may blindly select letter playing cards from the bag-but the cheating player may attach a widget to his finger to feel the indicia on the cards to identify what letters are on the cards in order to intentionally select a higher scoring card. The shuffler mixes and randomly distributes the playing cards, thereby reducing this and similar cheating methods.

Disclosure of Invention

The following presents a simplified summary of the disclosure in order to provide a basic understanding of some aspects of the invention. This summary is not an extensive overview of each embodiment disclosed herein. It is not intended to identify key or critical elements of the various embodiments or to delineate the scope of the disclosure. Its sole purpose is to present some concepts of the disclosure of the various embodiments disclosed herein in a simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

In one embodiment of the present disclosure, a playing card shuffler may include a card holder, a card receptacle, a belt, and a card shoe. The card holder is capable of holding a plurality of playing cards. The card container is capable of receiving a plurality of playing cards from the card holder. The band may include a shelf sized to carry at least one of the plurality of playing cards, the band being disposed adjacent the card container and rotatable to capture the at least one of the plurality of playing cards from the card container and carry the at least one of the plurality of playing cards in a direction of rotation of the band. The card shoe may include a chute and a shoe channel. The chute may be arranged to receive playing cards from the belt and sized to pass the playing cards into the card receptacle along the chute, the chute including a chute opening. The card shoe channel may extend from the chute opening to the first channel opening. The playing card shuffler is operable to selectively open a chute opening that when blocked defines a shuffling mode to deliver a plurality of playing cards in the chute to a card receptacle, and when accessible defines a dealing mode to enable delivery of a plurality of playing cards in the chute to a card shoe path.

In another embodiment, a playing card shuffler may include a card holder capable of holding a plurality of playing cards, a card receptacle capable of receiving the plurality of playing cards from the card holder, a belt capable of capturing and carrying at least one of the plurality of playing cards, and a card shoe. The card shoe may include a chute arranged to receive at least one of the plurality of playing cards from the belt and dimensioned to allow at least one of the plurality of playing cards to enter the card receptacle along the chute, the chute including a chute opening, a card shoe passageway extending from the chute opening to the first passageway opening, and a card shoe including a chute portion aligned with the chute and having a chute portion aperture above the chute opening and a card shoe portion laterally movable across the chute portion. The playing card shuffler is operable to selectively move a dealing portion between a shuffling position and a dealing position. At the shuffling position, a plurality of playing cards can pass through the chute portion, and at the dealing position, a plurality of playing cards can pass through the chute opening and the chute portion hole.

Detailed Description

The following detailed description and the annexed drawings set forth and illustrate certain embodiments of the disclosure for the purpose of enabling those of ordinary skill in the relevant art to make and use the embodiments. Thus, the detailed description and illustrations of the embodiments are merely exemplary in nature and are not intended to limit the scope of the disclosure in any way. It should also be understood that the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale and that, in some instances, details that are not necessary for an understanding of the embodiments, such as conventional details of manufacture and assembly, may have been omitted. In the drawings, like numerals represent like parts.

In one embodiment of the present disclosure, a playing card shuffler may include a card holder, a card receptacle, a belt, and a card shoe. The card holder is capable of holding a plurality of playing cards. The card container is capable of receiving a plurality of playing cards from the card holder. The band may include a shelf sized to carry at least one of the plurality of playing cards, the band being disposed adjacent the card container and rotatable to capture the at least one of the plurality of playing cards from the card container and carry the at least one of the plurality of playing cards in a direction of rotation of the band. The card shoe may include a chute and a shoe channel. The chute may be arranged to receive playing cards from the belt and sized to pass the playing cards into the card receptacle along the chute, the chute including a chute opening. The card shoe channel may extend from the chute opening to the first channel opening. The playing card shuffler is operable to selectively open a chute opening that when blocked defines a shuffling mode to deliver a plurality of playing cards in the chute to a card receptacle, and when accessible defines a dealing mode to enable delivery of a plurality of playing cards in the chute to a card shoe path.

In other embodiments, the card shoe channel may be divided into a first channel opening or a second channel opening, and the card shoe channel includes a channel gate to selectively block the card shoe channel from either the first or second channel opening. The card shoe may include a plurality of card channels, each card channel being sized to receive at least one of the plurality of playing cards. The playing card shuffler may include a card holder support having a pair of rails. The card shoe may include a plurality of rail slots, each rail slot being disposed in a pair of bottom walls extending downwardly from sides of the card shoe, and each rail slot being engageable with one of the pair of rails. A card shoe cover may be arranged to block a bottom end of the card passage, and each of the pair of bottom walls may include a cover slot sized to receive the card shoe cover. The playing card shuffler may include a card counter having a card counter inlet aperture, a card counter outlet aperture, and a card counter conduit extending between the card counter inlet and outlet apertures. The card counter inlet aperture may be located adjacent the card holder and the card counter outlet aperture may be located above the card container. The card counter conduit may include at least one bend. The playing card shuffler may include a rear receptacle arranged to directly receive playing cards carried by the belt, and having an inclined floor terminating at a chute entrance.

One embodiment of a playing card shuffler may include a card holder capable of holding a plurality of playing cards, a card receptacle capable of receiving the plurality of playing cards from the card holder, a belt capable of capturing and carrying at least one of the plurality of playing cards, and a card shoe. The card shoe may include a chute arranged to receive at least one of the plurality of playing cards from the belt and dimensioned to allow at least one of the plurality of playing cards to enter the card receptacle along the chute, the chute including a chute opening, a card shoe passageway extending from the chute opening to the first passageway opening, and a card shoe including a chute portion aligned with the chute and having a chute portion aperture above the chute opening and a card shoe portion laterally movable across the chute portion. The playing card shuffler is operable to selectively move a dealing portion between a shuffling position and a dealing position. At the shuffling position, a plurality of playing cards can pass through the chute portion, and at the dealing position, a plurality of playing cards can pass through the chute opening and the chute portion hole.

In further embodiments, the card shoe may include a shoe entrance and a shoe exit. The card dealing position may include second and third positions, whereby the card shoe inlet may be aligned with the chute portion in the second position and the card shoe outlet aligned with the chute opening in the third position. The chute portion may include a projection, and the card shoe may include a gap sized to receive the projection and disposed adjacent the shoe entrance, the projection entering the gap as the projection moves between the second position and the third position. The card shoe may include a sensor located near an entrance of the shoe, the sensor operable to identify at least one of the plurality of playing cards. The card dealing portion may include an end post that contacts one side of the chute portion when the card dealing portion is in the shuffling position. The card dealing portion inlet can only accommodate one of the plurality of playing cards at a time and can only receive another of the plurality of playing cards after the one of the plurality of playing cards is delivered to the card dealing portion outlet. The card shoe may include a sensor for identifying the one of the plurality of playing cards that is located within the shoe entrance. The chute portion may include a pair of chute portion tabs that extend into the chute portion. The card shoe channel may be divided into a first channel opening or a second channel opening, and the card shoe channel may include a channel gate to selectively block the card shoe channel from either the first or second channel opening.

Referring now to the drawings, a playing card shuffler 10 may include a housing 100 with a card holder 110 mounted at the top of the housing. The card holder 110 may be sized to hold a plurality of playing cards. In the illustrated embodiment, the card holder 110 includes a plurality of card channels 112 extending internally throughout the length of the card holder 110 and sized to receive correspondingly sized playing cards, for example, for use in playing cardsIn the form of squares or for dominoesOr a rectangular form of mahjong. The card shoe 110 may be mounted on a card shoe holder 120, and the card shoe holder 120 may be mounted on top of the housing 100. The card holder support 120 may include a pair of rails 122 sized to mate with the rail slots 114 provided in the bottom of the card holder 110. The track slot 114 may be defined along a pair of bottom walls 116 extending downwardly from the side walls of the card holder. In addition to track slot 114, bottom wall 116 may include a cover slot 118 sized to slidably receive an elongated card holder cover 119 that may selectively cover the bottom side opening of card channel 112. A card holder support aperture 124 may be disposed between the rails 122 and sized to receive playing cards falling from the rails. According to the embodiments described herein, the top aperture in the housing 100 may be aligned with the card holder support aperture 124 to allow access of playing cards to the housing 100 and internal components of the playing card shuffler 10.

A housing cover 130 may be attached to the housing 100, and the housing cover 130 may include a keyboard 132 or other user input mechanism, such as a visual scanner, fingerprint reader, touch screen, credit or debit card reader, key insertion hole, or other known or yet to be discovered electronic or analog mechanism to facilitate user input commands. Front cover 130 may also include a display screen 134 or other data output mechanism, such as a speaker or other electronic or analog mechanism known or to be discovered, to allow output data to be communicated to a user. Multiple covers, each with a keyboard 132 and/or a screen 134, are also contemplated. For example, in the illustrated embodiment, a housing cover 130 with a keyboard 132 and a screen 134 is provided on the front side of the machine, and another cover 130 with a keyboard 132 and a screen 134 may be provided on the opposite machine rear side. In this regard, two users sitting on opposite sides (i.e., the front and back of the playing card shuffler 10) may operate the machine via the keyboard 132 and screen 134, respectively.

Through the keyboard 132 and screen 134, one or more users may operate the components of the playing card shuffler 10 as described herein. For example, a user may selectively request that the playing card shuffler deal six cards, which will activate the playing card shuffler 10 as described herein, resulting in six cards being dealt to a user located near the front of the machine. The second user may then selectively request the playing card shuffler to deal two cards, which activates the playing card shuffler as described herein, resulting in two cards being dealt to a second user located near the back of the machine. This may continue until all of the playing cards have been dealt. Display 134 may indicate user data such as user name and game statistics. The display screen 134 may also indicate playing card data, such as the number of playing cards outstanding and the type of playing cards remaining or dealt.

Various mechanisms are contemplated in the present disclosure to transfer playing cards from the card holder 110 into the housing 100. In one embodiment, the card counter 140 may be removed such that playing cards naturally fall from the card path 112 onto the card holder brackets 120, and the falling playing cards may slide toward the card holder bracket apertures 124 by the inclination of the bottom surface card holder brackets 120 between the guide rails 122. The card holder support 120 is also movable across the rail 122 to position the bottom opening of each card channel 112 over the card holder support aperture 124.

Playing cards may drop from the card channels 112 through the card holder support apertures 124 into a card counter 140 disposed within the housing 100. The card counter 140 may include a card counter inlet aperture 142 aligned with the card holder mount aperture 124, and a card counter outlet aperture 144 located above the card container 150. Playing cards may be conveyed from the inlet aperture 142 to the outlet aperture 144 by a card counter conduit 146, and the card counter conduit 146 may be interwoven or coiled to facilitate shuffling of playing cards as they pass. A sensor may be disposed at any point along the conduit 146 between the inlet and outlet apertures 142, 144. The sensor is operable to count the number of cards passing through the card counter 140. In one embodiment, the sensor may be a visual sensor (e.g., a motion sensor) to detect the passing of each card.

After passing through the card counter 140, playing cards may drop onto the card container 150 and move toward the ladder or belt 160, such as by tilting the floor or bottom surface 152 of the card container 150. An arm or other pushing mechanism may be provided to push the playing cards toward the belt 160.

The belt 160 may include a plurality of spaced apart ledges or shelves 162 sized to capture a plurality of playing cards placed in the card container 150. The belt 160 may rotate to transport cards up resting on a shelf 162. The belt 160 may be rotated by a system of motors 164 and pulleys 166.

Upon reaching the top of the belt 160, the playing cards may be ejected into a rear receptacle 170, which rear receptacle 170 may have a bottom surface that is sloped toward the card shoe 180. The card shoe 180 may include a chute 182 connected between the rear receptacle 170 and the card receptacle 150. Chute 182 may have a chute opening 184 therein that leads to a card shoe passage 186. The card shoe channels 186 may be divided into multiple directions. In the illustrated embodiment, the dealer channel 186 splits into two directions, one direction toward the front of the playing card shuffler 10 and the other direction toward the back of the playing card shuffler 10. In other embodiments, the lanes may be divided into additional directions, particularly for games having more than two players. Playing cards falling through the card shoe chute 186 may emerge through the chute opening 188 for receipt by a user. A container or bag (not shown) may be attached to the opening to ensure that the viewer does not see the cards dealt. The access door 189 is operable to direct playing cards in a desired direction toward the access 186. In the illustrated embodiment, the access door 189 is located near a bifurcation of the passageway 186, and the access door 189 is pivotable between a first position that allows a playing card to fall in a first direction and a second position that allows a playing card to fall in a second direction.

The card selector 190 may be coupled with the chute 182 proximate the chute opening 184. The card selector may include a chute portion 191 and a dealing portion 192, the dealing portion 192 moving laterally across the chute portion 192 between a first position and a second position. The chute portion 191 may include chute portion tabs 191a that extend into the chute portion 191 to align playing cards as they pass through the chute portion 191 toward the dealing portion 192. An edge opening 193 may be provided in the chute portion 191 to allow the card dealing portion 192 to move laterally over the edge of the chute portion 191. The slider portion 191 may include a protrusion 194 disposed within the rim opening 193. The card shoe 192 may also include a shoe inlet 195 and a shoe outlet 196. The inlet 195 and the outlet 196 may be adjacent to each other. A gap 197 may be provided adjacent the inlet 195 and sized to correspond with the projection 194 such that the projection 194 may enter the gap 197. The card dealing portion 192 may also include one or more end posts 199 arranged to allow the projections 194 to pass toward the gap 197. For example, the illustrated embodiment shows two end posts 199 between which the protrusion 194 may pass.

The card selector 190 may operate by moving the card shoe 192 laterally across the chute portion 191. In the first position, as shown in fig. 12 and 13, the card dealing portion 192 may be arranged with the inlet 195 and the outlet 196 outside the chute portion 191. In this first position, which may be referred to as a shuffle position, playing cards may be allowed to pass through the chute portion. The end pillar 199 may contact one side of the chute portion 191 to prevent the card dealing portion 192 from being displaced. In the second position, the card shoe 192 may be laterally disposed such that the entry 195 is aligned with the chute portion 192, thereby allowing entry of playing cards from the entry 195. Due to the size of the entrance, only one playing card is allowed to be in the entrance 195 at a time. In the third position, the card dealing portion 192 may be laterally arranged such that the outlet 196 is aligned with the chute portion aperture 198. When moving from the second position to the third position, the projection 194 may contact a playing card within the inlet 195 and push the playing card into the outlet 196 so that the playing card will fall into the chute portion bore 198 and into the chute opening 184 and the card shoe channel 186. When the card shoe 192 is in the second and third positions (commonly referred to as the dealing position), the playing card cannot pass through the chute portion 191. When the dealing portion 192 is in the first position, playing cards may pass through the chute portion 191 along the chute 182 and eventually enter the card receptacle 150. Sensors may also be provided near the entrance 195 to scan or identify cards within the entrance 195.

A housing 102 may be provided within the enclosure 100 to support one or more of the structural components described herein. For example, in the illustrated embodiment, the card counter 140 is attached to the underside surface of the top of the housing 102, the card receptacle 150 is attached to the front side of the housing 102, the belt 160 is disposed within the housing 102, the motor 164 and pulley 166 system is attached to the left side of the housing 102, the rear receptacle 170 is attached to the rear side of the housing 102, and the card shoe 180 is attached to the right side of the housing 102.

A computer including at least a computer processor, memory, and electronic circuitry may be provided to operate the playing card shuffler 10 as described herein. For example, the computer may communicate with the sensors described herein to determine the number of playing cards remaining, including the type of cards remaining in the shuffler 10 and the type of cards dealt. The computer may also communicate with one or more displays 132 and a keyboard 134. Operating software may be installed on the computer system. The software may include a sensor module for communicating with the sensors described herein. A card dealing module may also be provided to control the number of cards to be selectively dealt as directed by the user. In one embodiment, Arduino software may be utilized to prepare a solution for implementing software modules.

The playing card shuffler 10 may also be switched between a dealing mode and a shuffling mode. When the chute opening 182 is blocked, such as when the card selector 190 is in its first position, a shuffling mode may be performed, allowing cards to be transferred from the rear receptacle 170 to the card receptacle 150. The dispensing mode may be executed when the chute opening 182 is open, such as when the card selector passes between its second and third positions, thereby allowing the playing cards to be delivered to the user.

It will be understood by those of ordinary skill in the art that the term "playing card" should not be limited to rectangular parallelepiped objects, such as dominoes or dominoesAnd (4) playing cards.
